Episode 06: Living with a Giant Hole in My Boat

After spending nearly 3 weeks redoing the 1st section of deck on my Wharram Narai catamaran, it was time to turn on the hustle. My next big project was the center deck which was about to fall all the way through. The previous owner had hired someone who had cut the center beams in half in order to more easily paint...an obviously foolish move.

I've been at the boat for nearly 2 months at this point and with the floor cracking underneath our feet, I knew it was time for change. That being said the center deck was our main way of reaching one side from the other. The giant hole in the center of my deck it was basically nearly impossible to move around the boat safely. This job had to be done quickly. However, if you know anything about living on a boat you would know that nothing on a boat ever happens quickly. This job ended up taking the entire week when I was hoping it would only take about 3 days..

I had to fix the boat from the dingy stripping everything down and glassing new blocks into the hull for support beams. With Karen working at her new job, it set things back because this was a job I could not do alone since the block's had to be thru bolted.
