Episode 01: My Sailing Story
One of the most common assumptions that I get when I meet someone new and they learn of what I’m doing is that I grew up sailing and that is the furthers thing from the truth. I grew up in middle Georgia in the heart of the South. The general idea about boating there is that it’s for weekend pleasure on the lakes in pontoon or ski boats…never sailing and definitely not something above 30ft.
The idea of completely moving to a life on the water didn’t hit me until I was 18 living in the Hudson Valley, 2 years after the first time I stepped foot on a sailboat. I was a young dance teacher states away from my family hoping to live a life that was a little more affordable and full of travel. I had always hated driving so tiny homes and van life were always off the table for me. That’s when I came across sailing.
I had loved sailing before, the gentle way the boats glide through the water without loud noises and smelly gas. Instantly, it clicked. I spent 8 years from that point for ward getting to where I am now. The biggest key was saving money and learning to sail to a point where I felt confident that I could handle a boat by myself. In 2020, I took some sailing classes and very seriously started my boat search. Watch my latest video to learn more about the rest…
